Synopsis

The guideline presents an abridged version of the German original edition, published by the Ministry for Environment and Nature Protection, Agriculture and Consumer Protection of the German federal state North Rhine-Westphalia (MUNLV NRW) and offers an overview, presented for the first time in this form and quality, of the possibilities of trenchless installation of non-accessible drains and sewers. The steerable methods of pilot pipe jacking and of microtunnelling, which are available and have proved in practice in Europe today, are described from a practical point of view by taking into account their application areas and the ancillary conditions which are to be looked at from various perspectives during planning and construction.

This English translation was performed for the international market by the engineering office Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stein & Partner GmbH, Bochum. It was created with the aim of providing people working for local authorities, municipalities and drainage service companies as well as engineering companies, who are responsible for the new construction of sewers, with a practically oriented working aid for taking the trenchless construction method into consideration. Furthermore, it should serve as a source of information and guidance for the planning and execution of sewer construction measures.
